Clean lines. Healthy growth. The right cut at the right time.
Considered hedge trimming and shrub pruning that keeps growth healthy, shapes balanced and planting in keeping with the garden around it.
Good pruning starts with understanding what you are cutting.
Different hedges and shrubs respond differently to pruning, and timing matters. We consider the plant, its age, growth and season before deciding how much to remove. The aim is not simply to make everything smaller. It is to maintain good shape, encourage healthy growth and help each plant sit naturally within the wider garden.

Shape, health and the right degree of restraint
Routine trimming keeps established hedges in proportion and helps shrubs hold a considered shape. The method and timing depend on the species, condition and place in the garden; a light maintenance trim is very different from a major reduction.
The quote asks how much hedge work is involved and whether the height is under two metres, between two and three metres or above three metres. Taller, difficult-to-access or unusually heavy work is reviewed before a price is confirmed.
The right cut begins with the right timing
We consider the plant, the season and visible wildlife activity before cutting. If the requested work would be unkind to the plant or inappropriate at that moment, we explain why a different time or a lighter touch would serve the garden better.
Surrey Leaf provides maintenance care for garden hedges and shrubs; tree surgery is not offered. Green waste created by the agreed hedge or shrub work is cleared as part of leaving the work area tidy.
Start with a better picture of your garden.
Tell us about the work, the garden’s condition and access, and add a few photos if you have them. We use that picture to recommend either four hours at £160 or a full day at £320 with one Surrey Leaf gardener.
If your garden needs a closer look, we review it personally rather than forcing it through an automatic price. That judgement helps us recommend the right amount of care and agree the priorities before work begins.
